I need a Moravian workbench. It needs to be modular and compact. The biggest struggle I've had thus far is choosing the clamping methods. Because of the continued ease of operations, a tail vise I feel is optimum. I also dig the leg vise mainly beefcake of ease of access and flow compared to many others but it is a pretty involved to build. I am more attracted to sprungwood, square dogs than roundular dogs. I feel I need to build the dogs first and have all the hardware ready for the vice selections before I even layout material for the bench. I currently have a plywood fab table with a Carpenter's moxon and some round dog holes. It's not modular but has wheels.
I think my problem here is mainly the time and attention. I want it to be complete, nice, durable etc. I throw together things like fab tables without much thought or time because they're just fixtures that i can adjust, repair, upgrade etc in the future. I just make sure material is straight, squarular and assembly is DN. Surfacing, finishing, advance engineering, permanent selections etc take a lot of time. And there's always people waiting for their own custom stuff to get finished. I'm ambidextrous but naturally favor the south paw. So tail vise on left, leg vise on right. Buying a ready made bench seems unlikely.
Conundrums
I look forward to any suggestions, comments, guidance.
Now I am going to have to see what a Moravian workbench is, so obviously no help from me.
